Enabling 2FA on your CoinSpot account adds an important extra layer of security to assist in keeping your account safe through the use of an authenticator app which generates codes every 30 seconds that only arrive to your registered device.
Although 2FA is not a requirement for your account, it is highly recommended that you keep 2FA enabled on your account at all times.
Step 1 - Download Google Authenticator from the APP Store or Google Play Store
Although there are alternative two factor authentication apps that will also work, Google Authenticator is the authentication app that we recommend.
Step 2 - Open the CoinSpot security page on your laptop or phone and click ‘Enable Two Factor Authentication’
You can also do this within the CoinSpot App by clicking Account>Security>Two Factor Authentication
Please note: If your 2FA is enabled but not working correctly, please disable your Two Factor Authentication and re-enable it to correctly set up your 2FA.
Step 3 - Scan the QR code or copy and paste the setup key into Google Authenticator
After clicking ‘Enable Two Factor Authentication’ you will now see a QR code and Setup Key
Open the Google authenticator app, choose to add an account (+ sign in the corner of the app) and choose ‘Scan a QR code’ or ‘Enter a Setup Key’
When setting up using Scan a QR code, align your mobile phone over the QR Code displayed on your CoinSpot account and scan it while in the Google Authenticator app.
If you are using the same device for setting up 2FA and logging into your CoinSpot account, then please select 'Enter a Setup Key' within Google Authenticator, you can now copy and paste the Setup Key into your Google authenticator app. The setup key is the long string of numbers and letters above the QR code on the CoinSpot security page.
Step 4 - Enter the 6 digit number generated from the Google Authenticator app, into the CoinSpot security page to finalise the setup
After 30 seconds, this token will refresh to a new token. Make sure you enter the token before the timer runs out on your Google authenticator app. This will be displayed as a blue circle which is closing.
2FA will now be set up correctly on your account.
If you are receiving a ‘Wrong Token’ message when entering your 2FA code please ensure you are not in incognito mode or click here
